About the Item

A rustic stone trough such as this was once a common sight in courtyards throughout rural China, filled with grain or water for chickens and other barnyard fowl. Chiseled from a block of limestone over a century ago, the stone vessel is sculpted to an oblong oval form and has weathered beautifully with time, developing subtle asymmetry and pitted wear to the interior. Drilled with a drainage hole, the stone trough is ideal today as a statement water feature, sink basin or garden planter, contrasting delicate foliage with the hard permanence of stone.
