Italian 19th century patinated Bronze birdbath/planter, signed A. Fazzi

About the Item

An elegant and high quality Italian 19th century patinated Bronze and Limestone birdbath/planter, signed A. Fazzi. This stunning birdbath is raised on a wonderful square Limestone pedestal with a fine mottled edge. Above is a exceptionally chased four sided support with scrolled foliate movements flanked by busts of classical figures at the four corners. A mottled ground like base supports the Bronze maiden above with intricate foliage leading up to a charming cherub and the Portoro marble basin. The basin displays a wide and shallow interior, with the rim being finished with a lovely mottled edge. Arnaldo Fazzi (1855–1944) was an Italian sculptor known for his refined decorative style and monumental works. A student of Giovanni Dupré, Fazzi gained recognition with his marble piece "Il falconiere" at the 1881 Paris Salon. His notable commissions include monuments to Giuseppe Garibaldi and Antonio Pedrocchi, as well as contributions to the Vittoriano in Rome. Fazzi taught sculpture in Lucca and Florence, leaving behind a legacy of public art and intricate bas-reliefs.
