Large Kramer Brothers Cast Iron Planter Pot in Black Finish

About the Item

Monumental Kramer Brothers planter urn. Produced in three pieces base, main body and planter insert. Each piece media blasted and powder coated in Matte black finish. Measures 28" wide across handles, base has 22.25" diameter, height is 38.5". Large elegant and impressive. Beginning in 1893, George H. Kramer, in partnership with his brothers Henry and Joseph established the Kramer Brothers Foundry in Dayton, Ohio. Initially the gray iron foundry produced parts for stoves and coal furnaces. They also produced high quality cement (concrete) worker's tools with the brand name Gem. Claimed to be the largest cement tool manufacturer in the United States. Of course, this type work saw seasonal fluctuations. To keep the factory running in the spring and summer, the Kramer Brothers developed a line of cast iron floral urns, lawn settees, chairs, and ornamental accessories. Many items imported from European foundries and patterns were duplicated for production by the Kramer Brothers. By the turn of the century, the Kramer Brothers Foundry's business surged due to the high demand for cast iron outdoor decorative items for the large homes and public parks being built across the United States and the Americas.
