Pair of Large French Cast Garden Vases after the Models of Jean-Baptiste Pigalle
By Jean-Baptiste Pigalle
Located in Dallas, TX
After the original 18th century garden vases, entitled Autumn, by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, this pair of large cast garden vases are in the classic krater form. A sprawling scene with mascarons, rams’ heads, and grapevines are set between egg and dart molding and gadrooned lobes. Made with a mixture of crushed stone and cement (known as reconstituted stone), the tall vases were imbued with a cream coloring agent during the casting process. Each vase is supported by a thick rectangular plinth beneath a tapering neck adorned with geometric motifs and Vitruvian waves filled with flowers. These impressive garden vases will make a wonderful statement, inside or outdoors. Originally part of a set of four vases depicting the seasons of Autumn and Spring, which were designed for the Chateau de Choisy by Ange-Jacques...

Pair of Octagonal Quatrefoil Cast Garden Planters from France
Located in Dallas, TX
One hallmark of Gothic architecture was the abundant use of tracery, or geometric latticework in structural designs. Perhaps one of the most readily recognized forms of tracery is the quatrefoil, seen on the side of this pair of octagonal cast garden planters from France. Each side of the planter has a recessed panel with a molded quatrefoil, inserted between two protruding half round rims. The thick bases also have a half round molding above cavetto cornices and a thin, recessed chamfer. A perfect garden accessory that can be used as an ornamental or a functional planter. Originally known as opus Francigenum (Latin for “French work”), it was not until the Baroque period (about 200 years later) that the term “Gothic” was first applied to the easily recognizable structures from 12th-15th century Europe...

Pair of 21st Century Versailles Planters in White
Located in West Palm Beach, FL
Authentic Provence Caisse de Versailles are composed of an aluminum metal frame. The panels are made of teak wood and therefore are extremely durable and weather resistant. The bottom of the planter is furbished with an aluminum grid to allow the release of excess water. The classical Garden à la Française evolved from the French Renaissance garden, a style which was inspired by the earlier Italian Renaissance garden at the beginning of the 16th Century. The Italian Renaissance garden was typified by planting beds or parterres. The French Formal Garden is a style of garden based on symmetry and the principle of imposing order on nature. Its epitome is generally considered to be the Gardens of Versailles designed during the 17th Century by the landscape architect André Le Nôtre for Louis XIV and replicated by other European courts. This handmade Authentic Provence planter...
