Pair of Chinese Cloisonné Over Porcelain Octagonal Planters on Gilt Wood Bases
About the Item
This unique pair of Chinese porcelain octagonal planters are a masterclass in the art of Cloissoné. Rarely do you see such a fine example of the technique over porcelain. Each panel of these planters is decorated by delicate patterns of birds and flowers, likely peonies, outlined by hand-applied cloisons filled with enamel in a variety of colors including vibrant reds, blues and white. The background of each planter is a continuous pattern of small geometric designs, possibly clouds, on a lovely teal blue background. Carved wood and gilted bases add an additional element of stateliness to these planters which are both functional and phenomenal works of art.
