About the Item

This pair of small, reconstituted stone planters are by the famous French foundry, Grandon Frès. Based on the production marks (seen in the interiors) which state Brevete, these planters are at least from the 1960s, as Brevete was a patent mark that was phased out in 1968). The gadrooned bodies taper to a circular foot and are topped by a quarter-round rim with a subtle bevel encircling the opening. A mottled patina has developed on both planters, consisting of white, black, ochre, and green. Some moss accumulation adds character to the already charming planters that have visible traces of the pulverized rocks that constitute the reconstituted stone. Our Grandon Frès planters can be used as decorative elements inside or outdoors, or used functionally as planters, as they have pre-existing drainage holes.

Pair of Large French Cast Garden Vases after the Models of Jean-Baptiste Pigalle
By Jean-Baptiste Pigalle
Located in Dallas, TX
After the original 18th century garden vases, entitled Autumn, by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, this pair of large cast garden vases are in the classic krater form. A sprawling scene with mascarons, rams’ heads, and grapevines are set between egg and dart molding and gadrooned lobes. Made with a mixture of crushed stone and cement (known as reconstituted stone), the tall vases were imbued with a cream coloring agent during the casting process. Each vase is supported by a thick rectangular plinth beneath a tapering neck adorned with geometric motifs and Vitruvian waves filled with flowers. These impressive garden vases will make a wonderful statement, inside or outdoors. Originally part of a set of four vases depicting the seasons of Autumn and Spring, which were designed for the Chateau de Choisy by Ange-Jacques...
