19th Century Cast Iron Greyhound Attr to J.W.Fiske

About the Item

A wonderfully patinated cast iron greyhound or whippet by J.W. Fiske Company from the late 19th Century. Beautiful detail. It’s had many layers of paint over the years most of which is now gone, leaving a great uneven rust color. It has been filled with concrete for added stability. In good overall condition with no breaks or repairs. Some losses to the the surface and pitting. The surface is very uneven. Nice rust patina with hints of old paint.

A very rare 19th century cast iron equine hitching post in the form of a jockey. The jockey is classically dressed in the 19th century riding attire, comprising of a black riding hat, red jacket and cream jodhpurs. The jockey is poised on a moulded plinth base, with one arm raised, holding out for use as a hitching post for tying up horses for grooming. He would be holding a stirrup or lantern which is missing.
