Alabaster Statue of David After the Antique

About the Item

An alabaster statue of David after the antique. In Neoclassical style, this impactful sculpture is expertly carved. This depiction of Michelangelos original sculpture would look striking on display in any period property. Its eye-catching, defined features make this sculpture a striking decorative piece. David by Michelangelo Michelangelo’s original sculpture of David is one of the most famous objects in the history of art due his size and story. In 1501, the Opera del Duomo of Florence officially commissioned a project, of sculpting twelve figures to decorate the exterior of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore - today known as the Duomo of Florence - to Michelangelo. Michelangelo sculpted David from September of 1501 until May of 1504, resulting in this icon of the Renaissance with a size and proportions of enormous dimensions, at just over 5 meters high and exceeding five tons. The original and very large sculpture of David now resides in the Accademia Gallery of Florence.
