Edward Fenno Hoffman bronze Girl with Rabbit 1977

About the Item

A wonderful and extremely detailed bronze of a girl holding a bunny by the noted American Artist Edward Fenno Hoffman III. It is signed and dated 1977 and also numbered 4/10. It is pictured on the title page of mr Hoffman's book as works on the plaster on the front cover. This is one of the most charming large bronzes I have seen in a while. A complete bio is available in the book but the accompanying brief bio is from his NY times obituary in 1991; Edward Fenno Hoffman 3d, a sculptor of portraits, children and religious themes, died on Friday at Bryn Mawr (Pa.) Hospital. He was 74 years old and lived in Wayne, Pa. His wife, the former Nadine Kalpaschnikoff, said he died of leukemia. Mr. Hoffman, who was born in Philadelphia, attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and worked briefly as an assistant to the sculptor Paul Manship. His first New York exhibition was in 1956 at the Grand Central Art Gallery, which represented him for the rest of his life. His work is in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the National Academy of Design. His public sculptures include an "Ascension" at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, a "Descent From the Cross" at St. John's Church in Southampton, L.I., and a "Pieta" at the American Cathedral in Rome.

  • Café Girl, Life Size Bronze Statue with Hand Applied Bronze and Verdigris Patina
    Located in Yonkers, NY
A lost wax cast bronze sculpture depicting a café waitress holding a round tray, in verde and bronze patina. This item is available now and this is also a current production. Created with the traditional technique of the lost-wax (à la cire perdue) which allows for great precision and finesse in the details, this bronze statue depicts a friendly café waitress wearing a short dress and walking on high heels. Her long, layered hair is framing her smiling face. She is holding a circular tray in her right hand and is moving her hips to the right, in a movement creating a slight torsion of her body, accentuated by the tilt of her head. The sculpture showcases a hand applied finish with verdigris and bronze patina and darker accents in the hair. With its great life Size proportions and complimenting colors, this bronze sculpture of a Café Waitress will make for a wonderful addition to any den, restaurant, bar...
