About the Item
A large antique glazed stoneware recumbent lion statue, attributed to R. Brown & Son of Ferguslie Fireclay Works, Paisley, Scotland (1850-1938). Though unsigned, other known ornamental lion statues identical in style and scale to this one are stamped with the oval Brown & Co. mark.
Made from stoneware and finished in a vibrant pale yellow glaze, this 19th century recumbent lion statue is steeped in history, the glaze characterfully weathered from exposure to the elements over the years, instilling the lion with a timeworn look.
Suitable for use indoors and out, this handsome lion statue will make a stylish interior display piece as well as a beautiful ornament for the garden.
