Large Cast Garden Statue of Putti with Flowers, Shell, and Mascaron

About the Item

Cast in France in the 2000’s, this large garden statue features three putti in front of a scalloped shell. The lively trio is surrounded by flowers and a large mascaron. The putto on the left is reclined on a bed of roses while blowing a Horn. The putto on the right side of the statue is depicted in a prone position, with several foliate branches behind and underneath him. In between the two children is a third putto, sitting on additional foliage with a floral garland across his lap that extends up to his raised left hand. More flowers can be seen on the facing beneath the putti. In the middle of the blooms is a grotesque mascaron with crinkled ribbons emerging from both sides of the face. The base of the textured shell, formed by a pair of volute scrolls, extends behind the mascaron. Cast, or reconstituted stone, is a type of building material often used for garden ornaments. Organic stone is crushed into smaller fragments, then combined with a binding agent, such as cement, and possibly coloring pigments. The resulting aggregate is poured into a mold where it hardens. Once the reconstituted stone has set, the mold is removed, revealing a durable work of art, such as our large garden statue. The statue can be displayed as is in a garden setting or it could be incorporated as a back wall of a pool. Approximate weight: 3190 lbs.
