Life-Sized English Cast Stone Statue of a Mermaid Atop a Carved Stone Base

About

It’s extremely rare to find good mermaid figures, and this one is a beauty. Her seated position with arms overhead and elegant scalloped fish-scales to her bottom half give this piece extraordinary look. Made of cast stone and with a beautiful weathered patina with lichen and bits of moss, we have seated her atop an early 19th century hand carved stone base to elevate her and enhance her overall presence. Perfect as a garden centerpiece. She is in excellent vintage condition, but the stone base has a few nicks and a small missing piece to the bottom of one corner shown in photographs, that is to be expected for a stone piece of this age. Signed indistinctly on the backside of her tail, we suspect she may have been made in Italy, but we bought her in England, where she also could have been made. Truly a one of a kind! Please note that the dimensions of the mermaid alone are 29 inches wide x 21 inches deep x 34 inches high, while the stone base measures 31.5 inches wide x 30.75 inches deep x 8.75 inches high. Together, their combined height is 42.45.
