About the Item

These impressive stone garden statues are hand-carved of solid limestone to the form of two reclining rams. As motifs in Chinese art, rams and sheep represent the breath of light and life, which returns each year when winter thaws and yields to spring. In the Chinese language, rams, sheep, lambs, ewes and goats are all known by the term yang (羊), and so are also a visual idiom for the positive, masculine forces (yang 陽) that balance the universe. With their spiral horns and attentive postures, these two sculptural rams greet you with cheerful energy and look incredible flanking a doorway or tucked within the garden.
