About the Item
This charming 19th-century French stoneware confit pot features a soft cream glaze and classic, rounded form. Subtle imperfections and timeworn chips add to its authentic character, revealing its utilitarian past and handcrafted origins. Traditionally used in rural French kitchens, pots à confit were essential for preserving duck, goose, or pork in their own fat before refrigeration. The lower half was often left unglazed and buried in cool cellar earth to maintain temperature. Today, these rustic vessels are beloved for their understated beauty and historical resonance, equally at home holding utensils, flowers, or simply displayed as a sculptural object. Wear consistent with age and use. 9.5"w x 7.5"d x 7"h
