19th Century English Polished Steel Warwick Vase
About the Item
A fine and impressive example English Regency period Warwick Vase in polished steel. A handsome rendition of the famous Roman original. After it's excavation from Hadrian's Villa in the late 18th century it caused a sensation and copies were made in various sizes and materials. More typically made in cast iron or bronze, this steel example is more unusual. Will make a stunning centerpiece.
Giovanni Battista Piranesi made two etchings of the vase which were included in his 1778 publication, "Vasi, candelabri, cippi".
