Large 19th Century French Biot Pottery Jar or Planter

About the Item

A large early 19th century French terracotta pottery Biot jar in classic shape with aged patina and a few large drips of ochre glaze. Interior and rim have pale yellow glaze with minor losses. Hand formed using the ancient technique of rope thrown pottery, these jars were used to preserve and transport olive oil and were produced in the village of Biot, in Provence. Overall dimensions: 22" Height x 18" Diameter Top: 15" Diameter opening Bottom: 9.5" Diameter Weight: 45 lbs. Three holes in the bottom for drainage. Contact us for a competitive shipping quotation.
