Pair of Vintage Weathered Iron Basket Form Urns from France, 20th Century

About the Item

These tall, cylindrical basket-form urns are comprised of iron that has a fantastic, weathered appearance. From France, dating to the 1900s, the entire urns are slatted, offering a unique aesthetic appeal. The openings have a drastic outward curve and are adorned with a riveted band. A similar, yet less grand, shape can be seen on the feet, offering plenty of stability. Our weathered iron urns can be used inside or outdoors as planters, garden ornaments, or umbrella stands.

Pair of Large French Cast Garden Vases after the Models of Jean-Baptiste Pigalle
By Jean-Baptiste Pigalle
Located in Dallas, TX
After the original 18th century garden vases, entitled Autumn, by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, this pair of large cast garden vases are in the classic krater form. A sprawling scene with mascarons, rams’ heads, and grapevines are set between egg and dart molding and gadrooned lobes. Made with a mixture of crushed stone and cement (known as reconstituted stone), the tall vases were imbued with a cream coloring agent during the casting process. Each vase is supported by a thick rectangular plinth beneath a tapering neck adorned with geometric motifs and Vitruvian waves filled with flowers. These impressive garden vases will make a wonderful statement, inside or outdoors. Originally part of a set of four vases depicting the seasons of Autumn and Spring, which were designed for the Chateau de Choisy by Ange-Jacques...

Weathered Cast Stone Pig and Piglets from England, 20th C.
Located in Dallas, TX
Cast in England in the 1900s using reconstituted stone, this charming pig and four piglets statue has developed a lovely weathered patina from exposure to the elements. Reconstituted stone is organic stone that has been crushed into small bits (if you look closely, you can still see pebble inclusions within the casting). These fragments are then combined with cement and sometimes coloring pigments are added to the mix. The resulting aggregate is poured into a mold where it is left to harden. After the blend has set, the mold is removed, rendering a durable work of art. Our weathered cast stone pig...
