About the Item

A late 19th century antique stained glass window of the Greek Asclepius Rod, the symbol of health and scientific medicine. It depicts a serpent entwined around a staff with angel wings at the top. At the centre is a distinguishable illustration of the famous symbol surrounded by vibrant yellow flowers. Over 100 years old, this piece of architectural art would make a stunning feature window flooded with daylight in any period property. Asclepius Asclepius was a demi-god son of Apollo. He developed such incredible powers of healing that his rod became the symbol it is today. This symbol is even featured on the logo of the World Health Organisation. While his mother Coronis was pregnant with the demi-god she took another lover, which angered Apollo. To punish her, Apollo sent his sister Artemis to kill her. But while she was being cremated Apollo took pity on the unborn Asclepius and saved him from the flames. Apollo then raised him and taught him the art of healing. Asclepius became so accomplished he was able to bring one of his patients back from the dead. This window is a stunning and detailed interior feature inspired by Asclepius’ story in Greek mythology.
