19th Century English Wicker Laundry Basket with Painted Labeling

About the Item

A charming small-scale English wicker basket from the early 20th century, featuring finely handwoven willow construction and original black painted lettering across the front and lid. Though the text has faded over time, its bold, utilitarian presence suggests the basket was once used for commercial or industrial purposes—possibly as a delivery container for a grocer, laundry service, or textile supplier. The basket has a domed lid, reinforced with iron brackets, and a simple leather loop closure on the front. The woven willow has aged to a warm, honeyed tone, and the overall structure remains sturdy with beautiful timeworn character.
