A stunning openwork corbeille, or basket vase, dating from the early 19th century Empire Period, beautifully crafted from Old Paris Porcelain and richly gilded all over its delicately reticulated body. Circular in shape, this wide-rimmed decorative vase stands on a shaped and polished stem above a heavy square base Vases such as this one would traditionally form the centrepiece on a table filled with fruit or flowers, or be placed centrally on a mantlepiece or commode, perhaps flanked by ornamental candlesticks.
