Background of First Period Worcester Porcelain
Worcester's First Period lasts from 1751 to 1783. In 1751, Dr John Wall persuaded a group of 13 businessmen to invest in a new factory at Warmstry House, Worcester, England, on the banks of the River Severn.
The early wares were soft-paste porcelain with bodies that contained soaprock, commonly called soapstone in most ceramic circles.
In 1783, Thomas Flight, the concern's former London sales agent, purchased the factory for £3,000.
