About the Item

A rare and soulful 18th-century (or earlier) Swedish hand-carved wooden bowl, accompanied by its original iron cannonball used for crushing mustard seeds—a functional and historical pairing seldom found together. This rustic bowl embodies the wabi-sabi aesthetic, with its weathered patina, asymmetric form, and visible tool marks telling a story of centuries-old use. The wing-like extensions served as handles and resting points for the cannonball crusher, which still bears the rich surface oxidation of age. A striking display piece that blends primitive Scandinavian utility with sculptural presence, ideal for collectors of early European folk objects and timeless natural design.
