19th Century German Rococo Revival Repoussé 800 Silver Centerpiece or Bowl
About the Item
A large-scale, extremely ornate 19th century Rococo Revival solid silver bowl or centrepiece.
Constructed of worked and fused sections each having large cartouches.
Each cartouche has scenes of cherubs and a faux basket weave decoration.
The interior is gilt, the rim is scalloped, and the body rests on a raised foot.
This impressive bowl was made by by J D Schleissner and Sons of Hanau, Germany - a celebrated firm that was in operation for almost all of the 19th century. Schleisser worked in the Renaisance and Roccoco Revival styles and their work continues to be highly coveted by collector's today.
Base is hallmarked for J D Schleissner und Söhne in Hanau, Germany.
