Agata Bowl by Henry Wilson

About the Item

Agata Bowl by Henry Wilson Dimensions: D 25 x H 7.3 cm Materials: Aluminum. Influenced by Eastern aesthetics, particularly those of Japanese ceremonial bowls, Agata Bowl is an exercise in the juxtaposition of processes. Specifically, it renders the qualities of refined ceramics in rough, sandcast aluminum. Whilst the form retains the proportions and attributes of ceramic traditions – such as the fine bottom edge that effects a delicate way of meeting the table – the materiality of metal and a raw industrial manufacturing process deliver a pleasing play on the expected properties of such vessels. Henry Wilson's work combines a rational, democratic utility with an element of sculptural expression. There is a clear form and function in our products, but it’s important they also have feeling. We are interested in the awkward beauty that comes from something made by hand. We like to explore how imperfection can be introduced into an Industrial process, to make something at scale that retains a sense of individual charm.
