An original antique rice pounder hand carved from a single teak root. Both usable and sculptural. So many uses for this beautiful one of a kind piece, such as holding towels, a champagne holder for parties or as a table base with a glass top.
This rice pounder was sourced in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The cost of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility.
