Big Heavy Decorative Murano Bowl by Mario Pinzoni for Seguso
About the Item
Sourced by Spinzi Milano, this is a rare, attractive and perfectly preserved decorative bowl in "Sommerso" blue and clear glass designed by Mario Pinzoni, during his time as creative director of the famous "Seguso Vetri d'Arte" furnace in Murano, Italy.
Born in Venice in 1927, Pinzoni graduated as an architect but later turned his attention to glassmaking, being taught in the art of designing and making Murano glass by the legendary Flavio Poli. After working together with his master at Seguso, he became artistic director of the furnace himself, following in Poli's footsteps and creating wonderful pieces in the "Sommerso" technique, where coloured glass is enveloped - seemingly submerged - in a clear layer.
The present bowl is big in size, perfect to be used as a centerpiece, and is thick and heavy - giving out the impression of supreme quality. It is extremely well preserved, with minimal signs of age visible throughout, and is a true collectors' piece.
