Biography Bjørn Wiinblad was a Danish painter and ceramicist known for his whimsical illustrations and carefully designed household objects. Wiinblad’s signature round-faced, smiling figures in fantastical or folkloric settings, made him a popular and admired creative talent in his native country. Born on September 20, 1918 in Copenhagen, Denmark, he trained as a typographer before becoming an artist. He worked extensively with the Nymolle and Rosenthal pottery companies, designing a commemorative annual Christmas plate for the latter in 1971.
