Contemporary The Earth's Language 02 bowl by Sukkeun Kang

About the Item

Earth's Collection: I make the form, color and texture all natural. It is the growth rings that determine the form of the work. Tree rings are created by various environmental factors such as weather and sun, and different amounts of moisture in each tree ring dry at different speeds to create a natural free curve. As for the color and texture of the work, earth materials (soil, ore, stone, sand) are attached using the lacquer maki technique, and metals such as copper, iron, and zinc are applied layer by layer with the lacquer maki technique. The sun's ultraviolet rays melt the lacquer of the maki technique, and rain and moisture corrode the metal to create colors and textures. If the work is left in this environment for several months, the final marquee metal is corroded and the metal underneath it is corroded, resulting in various colors and textures. I observe the lacquer-marked artworks in the front yard for a year in a humid and hot summer, sub-zero winter, and being exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays, rain, and wind Lacquer and heat curing: Lacquer is our heritage that has been used since 7,000 years ago. Along with humidity curing, which involves painting and curing lacquer, heat curing is a lacquer curing method that has been passed down for thousands of years. The lacquer heat curing technique is a technique of hardening lacquer on metal or ceramics where lacquer does not adhere well. My lacquer is special. I completed it by applying the lacquer heat curing method to wood for the first time. This hardened lacquer bowl does not smell of lacquer even when hot food is put in it, and it can be washed with detergent and is safe even if it is put in water for a long time.
