Elsa Rady for Swid Powell Silver Plate Post Modern Form Bowl or Vessel Argentina

About the Item

A beautiful and striking post modern style silver plate bowl by Elsa Rady for Swid Powell circa 1990's. The strong geometric lines of the lip are softened by the gentle curve of the bowl itself and the wonderful proportion and scale that the piece demonstrates. While Elsa Rady may be most well known for her ceramics and ceramic design, she clearly and effortlessly translated her vision to silver plate for Swid Powell. From The Marks Project, "Many of her bowl forms have diagonal cuts at the rim to visually create the feeling of centripetal motion. Rady used her work to reinterpret ancient classical ceramic forms and techniques, particularly those derived from Asian ceramic traditions. The simplicity and clean lines of her work also reflect mid-century modern aesthetics. She challenged the existing standards for ceramic display by creating custom wall-mounted shelves and suspending her works from stainless steel cords. Rady studied with Ralph Bacerra and Otto and Vivika Heino at the Chouinard Art Institute. She worked designing for both Interpace Franciscan China Corporation and Swid Powell Corporation. She maintained her studio in Venice, California." This well crafted and beautifully designed piece has been professionally polished.
