About
A good 18th century, First period ( Dr. Wall), Worcester porcelain bowl, printed in cobalt blue with the "Fisherman" pattern and with a painters mark to the base, circa 1775.
The bowl is well potted in Soft Paste porcelain.
The Fisherman or Fisherman and Cormorant, transfer printed pattern, was one of the most popular chinoiserie patterns produced by Worcester and others, notably Caughley.
There is a Worcester disguised numeral "painters" mark to the base in under-glaze blue, dating this piece to circa 1775.
Painters marks and mock oriental marks occurred in many variations as shown on pages 692 & 693 of Geoffrey Godden's Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks.
