IVR Mazzega Green Iridescent and Acid Murano Glass Centerpiece, Italy 1950s
By Mazzega
Located in Naples, IT
Sculptural Murano glass centerpiece with IVR Mazzega label. The origins of Vetreria Mazzega date back to 1929, when Romano Mazzega established a small company in Murano that bore his name. The factory, whose history is little known, seems to have produced pieces of high quality, but mostly inspired by the work of its competitors. In 1937 Romano Mazzega's house was sold to Aureliano Toso, who renamed it Vetri Decorativi Rag. Aureliano Toso. The following year Romano Mazzega opened a new glassworks, Fratelli Mazzega, in collaboration with his brother Gino and sister Maria. The company took the name IVR (Industrie Vetrarie Riunite) Mazzega, around 1950. Since 1954 the company has collaborated with Fucina degli Angeli, an artists' cooperative founded in 1950 in Murano. It thus produces pieces created by internationally renowned artists, such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Jean Cocteau and Georges Braque. At the same time it welcomes independent designers, such as Luigi Scarpa Croce...
