Gouda Dutch Art Deco Sydney Pattern Painted Lidded Bowl
About the Item
A stylish Dutch Gouda art deco pottery lidded pot decorated in the Sydney pattern made at Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (Plazuid) and dating from the 1920’s. The attractive and unusual shaped pot of is of elegant squat wide rounded form raised on a narrow-rounded foot with a wide flat edged body with a wide narrowing shoulder and slightly raised opening with a small, raised lip supporting a domed round cover. The pot is hand painted in tones of brown with blue and white linear patterning with the cover painted with a brightly colored single floral design in tones of blue, green and orange set in a contrasting blue outline against a white ground. The pot has the usual hand painted marks for the Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland to the base along with design number 4262.
Provenance: Acquired in the UK Art Market.
In good condition with light wear associated with age and use. There are a few very minor glaze nicks but nothing which detracts.
