Gunnar Nylund, born in Paris in 1904 to sculptor and designer parents, began his career as a designer for Danish brand Bing & Grondahl, where he worked until 1928. He then co-founded the ceramics workshop Saxbo in Denmark with Nathalie Krebs. In 1931, he was recruited by Rörstrand in Lidköping, Sweden, where he worked as artistic director until 1955. After his tenure at Rörstrand, Carl-Harry Stålhane took over as artistic director and Nylund continued to freelance for the company for several years.
