Important 19th Century Gilded Bronze Centrepiece, Christofle, Paris

About the Item

A magnificent and important gilded bronze and Onyx centrepiece dating to around 1880. The beautifully cast base is made from bronze and covered in gold. The theme is highly sought-after, featuring a pair of Cherubs or Putti figures and standing on three naturalistic horse's hoof legs. The bowl is original to the piece (both base and bowl with corresponding design numbers - 3983670) made from a large piece of green polished onyx, a couple of tiny fleabite chips to the rim, mentioned purely for accuracy. The underside of the base is fully marked for Charles Christofle. A grand piece in superb condition with a diameter measuring 11 3/4" and standing 12" tall. Dating to c.1880. Item: 43232.
