Large English 19th Century Walnut Bowl with Carved Lip

About the Item

This generously sized English walnut bowl dates to the 19th century and showcases the warm, mellow patina developed from over a century of use. Hand-carved from a single piece of walnut, the form is broad and subtly oval, with softly sloped walls and a wide rim featuring a simply carved lip. The surface bears the marks of age and handling—scratches, wear, and minor tool impressions consistent with daily domestic use—adding to its tactile and visual appeal. Measuring over 20 inches across, the bowl would have served as a practical piece in a working kitchen, likely used for dough preparation, mixing, or presentation. Today, it offers sculptural presence as a rustic centerpiece, fruit display, or decorative object in a variety of interiors, from English country to modern organic. The underside retains its original form, with deep concentric rings visible from the hand-turning process. This is an honest, weighty antique with both decorative character and functional scale.
