About the Item

Midcentury decorative ceramic bowl (circa 1960s) by Albert Thiry (1932-2009). A Classic Thiry design and decoration scheme, this bowl's base colour is done in a chalky-white glaze with painted blue flowers and leaves, his trademark. It is elegantly simple with the bowl's interior design repeated on the exterior with the addition of subtle connecting lines or coils. In good vintage condition with some small but visible paint chips in the lip of the bowl simply adding to its characterful charm. Signed: 'Thiry' on base underside of piece. This gallery finds that Thiry's works are more and more in demand in overdue recognition of his artistic creativity. Upon request a video of this piece will be provided. About the Artist: Albert Thiry (1932 - 2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian. Dimensions: D 22 cm / 8.7" H 11 cm / 4.3".
