About the Item

An exceptional English arts & crafts hand crafted copper posy or rose bowl decorated with fish made by renowned Cornish copper workshops Newlyn and dating from around 1900. The bowl has a hand planished finish with a narrow round shaped foot with recessed centre and is of deep round shape the body decorated with four embossed fish swimming amidst weeds and rocks. The bowl retains an original and tightly fitting posy top with pierced holes to allow flowers to be arranged and held in place. The centre is slightly raised and is also completely hand crafted. The bowl has a wonderful aged reddy brown patina with the inner bowl soiled and blackened from use. The bowl has not been overly polished and has a wonderful period feel and appearance. The bowl is marked NEWLYN to the upper edge and is a fine and original genuine example from this sought after maker. Provenance: Acquired from the UK art market. In good used condition with wear associated with age and use.
