Orrefors Sweden Bowl With Colored Crystal Dish

About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our objects. Elegant and refined crystal bowl and plate with abstract designs in white and unusual lilac hues; the bowl has a classic shape, and the round plate has a slightly raised rim; the uniqueness of these two objects is the workmanship and coloring that the artisans were able to give to the crystal, the helical shape of the design and the soft color on both objects makes them pleasant, light almost ethereal. The objects were created between 1990 and 1995 in Sweden in Småland by the Orrefors Company. Under each item, engraved by hand, is the name of the company, then the model number, and finally, being limited edition items, the number of the item itself. Småland is a historic province in southern Sweden overlooking the Baltic Sea. The Orrefors Glassworks was founded in 1898 on the site of an old iron factory, and until 1913 the company produced mainly window and bottle glass. When Consul Johan Ekman purchased the factory in 1913, Orrefors began producing glasses, vases, and other household goods. Ekman hired brothers Eugen and Knut Bergkvist, who had previously worked at Kosta Boda, as well as Fritz Blomqvist and Heinrich Wollman, a craftsman who came from Bohemia and had a long tradition of glassmaking. Early attempts to make art glass were in the style of famous French glassworks such as Daum and Gallé. Prestigious designers, glassblowers, cutters, painters, and engravers did their part every day in this skilled work, and each object at Orrefors is a unique and sophisticated piece of craftsmanship. The Orrefors glassworks closed in 2012 when Orrefors was part of the Swedish glassworks group Orrefors Kosta Boda AB. Still today, however, these objects are produced and exported around the world, thanks to the interest of a number of Scandinavian designers who have prolonged their genesis and appeal to new generations In 2013, the historic glassworks building became home to the "Per Ekström Museet," an art museum. The objects are in excellent condition. We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Original and iconic molded glass bowl; its shape is simple and decisive, cleverly proportioned, the result of intelligent aesthetic reflection in pure Art Dèco style; although it bears no signature (in this type of bowl it happened often) we can say with certainty that it was produced in France between 1930 and 1935 by Pierre D'Avesn, an artist who at that time worked at the Daum glassworks, where he developed an innovative molded glass technique, obtaining pieces of amazing transparency and brilliance like our bowl. Pierre d'Avesn was born in 1901 and initially worked at Rene Lalique for 10 years. During this time, he designed Lalique's famous "Snake" vase and the "Tourbillons" vase, two of "Lalique's" most expensive collectibles...
