Pair of Italian Creamware 2-Piece Topiary Fruit Bowls

About the Item

A very realistic rendering of a tower of fruit, this pair of creamware topiaries was produced in Italy during the mid-1900s. Creamware is a type of earthenware that is fired at low temperatures and then glazed with lead, resulting in a creamy, high-gloss finish. Each topiary has a removable lid that consists of stacked fruit, such as grapes, pears, and bananas, some depicted with leaves still attached. The bowls are adorned with a pierced, repeating geometric motif around the opening, just above a subtly molded circular base. These Italian creamware topiaries would make wonderful additions to a living room, dining room, or hallway as decorative objects on a center table or console. Their neutral color allows them to work with nearly any color palette.

Small Italian Beige and Burgundy Marble Lobed Basin or Vide Poche
Located in Dallas, TX
Hand-carved in Italy during the 1900’s, this small marble lobed basin would make a great vide-poche. A vide-poche (literally “empty pocket”) is a small storage bowl for everyday items, such as car keys, loose change, wallets, etc. A marble basin of this size might have originally been used in a Catholic church as a holy water vessel. The gadrooned lobes carved along the outside give the appearance of a stylized scalloped shell. On the back of the shell is an excavated block of marble, which is how the basin would have been affixed to a wall. The beautiful beige colored marble with burgundy inclusions and white veining has been carved with a quarter round molding along the rim. A versatile item, our small Italian marble shell basin...
