Paolo De Poli Style Italian Enameled Copper Bowl.

About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as we aim to provide detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. This lovely and distinctive Italian enameled copper bowl was crafted using the ancient, now-lost technique of high-fire enameling on metal. After shaping the copper bowl by hammering, the enameling artisan carefully coated the lower part with enamel. With great skill, the artisan then created the design on the inside of the bowl, applied the desired colors in the form of oxides onto the design, and fired the entire piece at a high temperature. The artisan had to be exceptionally precise to ensure the colors did not melt together but remained distinct. Only the mastery and expertise of the craftsman made it possible to produce such unique objects. This bowl was made between 1950 and 1955 in a workshop in Padua by master artisans who undoubtedly collaborated with Paolo De Poli. Paolo De Poli (Padua, 1905–1996), a multifaceted artist trained in Padua and Venice, revitalized the ancient art of enameling on metal. He expanded its traditional applications (precious objects, sacred art) to include decorative objects and furniture, crossing into the realm of design. During his travels in the 1930s, De Poli became fascinated by ancient techniques of vitrified enamel in art museums and archaeological sites. Inspired by this art form, he began creating enameled metal works in 1933. Initially, he produced small, refined decorative objects known for their intricate designs and vibrant colors. As he gained mastery, he pushed the boundaries of the craft by refining the production process. De Poli established his workshop in Padua in the 1920s and collaborated with local artisans to create a wide range of items, including sculptures, plates, vases, lamps, and jewelry. The tradition of enameled copper work is deeply rooted in the Veneto region, particularly in Padua, where this craft has flourished since ancient times. The bowl is in good condition. The lines visible in some photos are part of the craftsmanship and appear depending on how the light hits the bowl; they are not defects. The bowl measures 27 cm in width, 25 cm in depth, and 5 cm in height. For all of our shipments, we use specialized packaging materials (custom-made wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) to ensure maximum protection and safety for the items.

Red and black ceramic table centerpiece made in Rockabilly style, the colors are strong and decisive, the black has the distinction of having beautiful reflections nacreè (mother of pearl), reflections that unfortunately the photos can not capture, from life are really seductive, the form is nicely undulating, pleasant and very capacious; the centerpiece was produced between 1950 and 1953, by skilled artisans in the area of Vallauris, the "French city of ceramics" in Provence north-east of Cannes, renowned since ancient times for the production of this fascinating material; there were more than 250 production centers, but today very few remain and since the mid-20th century, they are dedicated to the manufacture of contemporary ceramics. The word "Rockabilly" is a combination of "rock and roll" and "hillbilly" (a derogatory term used to define the Appalachian mountain people and, in a generic sense, meant country boor); Rockabilly was a musical genre developed in the early 1950s, it was one of the first forms of rock & roll. It was a fusion of bluegrass, country, boogie-woogie, and jazz, originally from the southern United States, and was played and sung by artists such as Buddy Holly...
