Carl Harry Stålhane Ceramic Bowl for Rörstrand
Located in Valby, 84
Beautiful ceramic bowl by Swedish artist Carl Harry Stålhane made at Rörstrand atelje in the 1950’s. The bowl has a beautiful glaze which gives a beautiful structure to the bowl. The glaze is a mixture of dark gray, brown and black which is a perfect detail to the bowl. The bowl is in good condition with no chips or cracks. The bowl is the perfect detail for any style of interior from a traditional Scandinavian style of interior to a more modern style of interior. Carl-Harry Ingemar Stålhane, born 15 December 1920 in Mariestad, died 11 April 1990 in Lidköping, was a Swedish ceramist, designer, sculptor and painter. Carl-Harry Stålhane was the son of the merchant Carl Vilhelm Hilarius Stålhane and Agnes Elisabeth Lundgren and from 1948 married to Birgit Ingegerd Dahlin. Stålhane studied faience painting at Rörstrand's Porslinsfabrik and, after passing tests, was employed as a faience painter at the factory in 1939, but in the mid-1940s he was given the opportunity to try working with the rotary disc, which resulted in his further training at Grünewald's painting school 1944–1946 and for the sculptor Ossip Zadkine at the Académie Colarossi in Paris 1947–1948. After the Paris period, he got to work with design and he first created stoneware in a Chinese classical style with a certain connection to Gunnar Nylund's objects. Through stages of faience painting and ornate glaze decoration, in the 1950s he reached a compact and closed form of chamotte stoneware, including vases and abstract sculptures with eruptively mottled earthen glazes. At the age of 30, he became something of a master of stoneware and took over as leading artist from Gunnar Nylund. In the early 1960s he worked with heavier objects that were often modeled rather than turned, and his square forms become more common. He also designed consumables for serial production, among other things he designed the series Victoria which was shown in London in 1959 and together with Aune Laukanen who was responsible for the decor, he created the Spanish-inspired series Torro. He also designed a stoneware set...

Italian 1940s Crystal Bowl, Milan, circa 1940
By Eliseo Mangili
Located in Milano, IT
Crystal bowl with silver and coral decorative elements Eliseo Mangili (1890-1977) Milan, circa 1940 It measures 4.8 in high x Ø 8.26 in; foot Ø 4.33 in (12.2 x Ø 21 cm; Ø foot 11 cm) 5.51 lb (2.55 kg) The rounded bowl narrows and rests on a flared foot with a polygonal section in blue crystal. The bowl itself is crafted in transparent crystal and continues the polygonal motif. The base of the bowl is decorated with a series of engraved blue arches which somewhat overlap creating a corolla and with five vertical cusps of the same colour. The rim is accented with a triple cut line around the entire circumference. A silver band representing a currant branch wraps the “waist” where the foot joins the bowl with currants made of orange coral. The bowl features the following marks along the silver band which defines its narrowing towards the foot. These help us date the work: 1) a lozenge with the abbreviation of the province (MI); Roman fasces; the number 08. This was the mark in force after the promulgation of the law of 5 February 1934 n. 305, which provided for the use of a uniform mark for the identification of the silversmith and of the province. In this case it is the Milanese smith Eliseo Mangili during the period 1935-1944. 2) 800 without a border. Title in thousandths of silver. Eliseo Mangili was one of the most talented goldsmiths flanking Alfredo Ravasco...

Tilgmans Swedish Modern Green Woman Wall Plate, Centerpiece, 1950s
Located in Copenhagen, DK
Extraordinary modernist item by Swedish Tilgmans Keramik. Fully glazed centerpiece or wall decoration depicting a green faced woman with long stemmed yellow and blue flowers on a striped dark blue background created with the sgraffito technique. Manufactured in 1957 by German/Swedish Paul Harald Tilgman in his workshop in a small town close to Gothenburg in Sweden. Blue patterned glaze on the sides and muted blue leaves on the milky white glazed base. Signed and dated on base. A rare and unique piece in beautiful condition! Sweden, 1957. About Tilgmans Keramik: Paul Harald “Harry” Tilgmann was born in Dresden, Germany in 1904 and emigrated to Sweden during WWII where he started Tilgmans Keramik (= Ceramics) in 1948 in the small town of Utbynäs close to Gothenburg. Tilgman had 16 employees working for him and when he hired the Polish refugee Marian Zawadzki (1912-1978) as artistic director in 1953, Tilgman Keramik started experimenting with the distinct sgraffito technique. The sgraffito technique consists of carving fine lines into the background of a design through a light coloured glaze down to a dark grey clay slip. This created a unique textured ground which has become a style associated with Tilgmans Keramik in particular. The decorative elements also appear to be outlined with a carved line and then hand painted with overglazes where birds, fish, flowers, butterflies and other animals were a common theme. This type of work was the most popular in Mid Century Sweden alongside Tilgmans small animal figurines...
