Willem de Vries Mid-Century Modern 'Cleopatra' Lidded Bowl for Fris Edam, 1961
About the Item
Willem de Vries (1908-1969) Mid-Century Modern 'Cleopatra' Lidded Bowl for Fris Edam. Holland, 1961. This is very distinct piece of Dutch mid-century modern pottery. Designed by Willem de Vries, who was chief designer at the Fris pottery workshop in Edam, Holland. Pieces by Fris were very influential in post-war Dutch pottery and therefore the work is still very collectible. This bowl is very delicate and elegant. Due to the subtle and modest decoration this lidded bowl really stands out. The overall shape of the bowl and the way the lid fits into the lower part is also very elegantly designed. All in all, a very stylish addition to a collection of mid-century modern pottery pieces or to use at a very stylish breakfast or lunch table. Great vintage shape with no faults. Signed Fris Edam at the base.
