William Moorcroft MacIntyre Art Nouveau Bell Flower Bowl

About the Item

A stylish and unusual Art Nouveau James MacIntyre & Co silver-plated rimmed bowl decorated with bell shaped flowers designed by William Moorcroft (English, 1872-1945) and dating from around 1900. William Moorcroft started out as a designer before becoming director of the art pottery department at James MacIntyre & Co at Burslem in Staffordshire. His floral designs were often compared to the work of William Morris and other Arts & Crafts designers. This wide round heavily potted ceramic bowl stands on a narrow round foot with a raised round edge applied with a silver-plated rim. The bowl is decorated with tube lined arrangements for bell shaped flowers daisy on similar formed green stems set against a white ground within a cobalt blue surround and forming panels repeated around the edge of the bowl. The inner bowl and base is glazed in white and the base has a printed brown James MacIntyre & Co mark along with a green WM signature mark for William Moorcroft. The silver-plated rim also bears silversmith makers marks. Provenance: from the private collection of Belgium based collector. In good condition with some minor brown staining to the inside base of the bowl.
