18th Century French Carved Variegated Marble Shell Church Stoup
About the Item
Hand carved in France circa 1750, this antique shell form dish was originally at the entrance door of a private chapel; in its original placement, this stoup was inserted into the wall and was used to hold the Holy Water. The variegated beige marble church recipient with elegant gadrooned lines and scalloped rim, is in excellent condition and has a rich, aged patinated finish. Re-purpose this small religious dish as a soap holder in a powder room, or use it as a vide-poche on a console table to catch loose change.
