Antique Blue and White Porcelain Dish by Worcester England, 18th Century C. 1785
About the Item
This 18th-century porcelain dish was made by the Worcester porcelain factory in England around 1785. It is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a classic English interpretation of chinoiserie design, showing delicate floral motifs and stylized landscape elements.
The dish has a gently scalloped edge and a light glaze that gives it a soft, luminous quality. The reverse bears a Worcester workman’s mark in underglaze blue.
The dish features a fluted design and a lobed edge, which enhance its visual appeal as light plays over the curved surfaces.
Pieces like this reflect the refined craftsmanship and decorative taste that made Worcester one of the leading English porcelain manufacturers of the period.

Background of Early Worcester Porcelain:
Worcester's First Period lasts from 1751 to 1783.
In 1751, Dr John Wall persuaded a group of 13 businessmen to invest in a new factory at Warmstry House, Worcester, England, on the banks of the River Severn.
The early wares were soft-paste porcelain with bodies that contained soaprock, commonly called soapstone in most ceramic circles.
In 1783, Thomas Flight, the concern's former London sales agent, purchased the factory for £3,000, a substantial sum at the time.
