Cenedese Albarelli Aquamarine + Gold Sculptural Centerpiece, Murano Glass, Label

$3,978.33

About

Extraordinary centerpiece in light aquamarine glass with gold leaf. The shape of the bowl has a swirl on the flap that creates an organic play of curves and light. The whole centerpiece becomes a modern sculpture. Labelled Cenedese Albarelli. I had another like this in green. I see the colors and the execution belonging to the Seguso Vetri d'Arte and Maurizio Albarelli concepts here. Gold leaf not showing well on pictures excepting for the lines of overlapping of the leaves. I used a still life equipment that provides backlight so the gold (who needs reflection) it's not that visible. Maurizio Albarelli has been one of the most important players and a fine collector of booming Murano of the 1980s and the early 1990s. He was at the time considered the new Paolo Venini, with whom he shared a similar professional life and business approach. He took the almost dissapeared Seguso Vetri d'arte at the end of the 1970s and brought it back to the splendors of past. He started collaboratng with many designers and artists. Having young Pino Signoretto and designers like Vittorio Rigattieri. He launched in the 80s the scavo look with a grandiose show at MACEF Milan of the Etruscan collection. There wasn't any real competitor at the time for ideas and style. Venini was under Gardini and was considered dead, having lost the artistic direction of the Santillanas. Every time I met him in his studio he showed pieces he was working on or collected that were decades ahead the common Murano production. Cenedese Albarelli is the last company with the acquisition from Cenedese so the date of manufacturing is early 1990s.
