Four Antique Worcester Porcelain Bowls in Queen Charlotte Pattern England C.1775
About the Item
This set of four bowls was hand-painted in the Queen Charlotte pattern at Worcester, England, circa 1775.
Each bowl features swirling panels of delicate blue and pink flowers, meticulously hand-painted to create a design that conveys a sense of graceful movement while highlighting the bowls' symmetry and artistry.
The edges of the bowls are lobed, barbed, and beautifully gilded, adding a refined touch and enhancing their overall visual appeal.
This is a stunning set that perfectly blends elegance and historical significance.
The Worcester Porcelain "Queen Charlotte" pattern is one of the most celebrated designs of the 18th century.
The original design is closely associated with Dr. Wall Worcester, often referred to as First Period Worcester.
The pattern was named after Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III, who purchased a dinner service in this design from Worcester in 1788, securing its place as a design of royal distinction.
Marks: The bowls have Worcester's 18th-century crescent mark, in use from 1755 to 1792.
Dimensions: 5.75" diameter x 2" deep
Condition: Excellent, with some gilt touched in on the outer rim.
Price: $780
This remarkable set exemplifies the craftsmanship and artistry of antique English porcelain, making it a timeless addition to any collection.
Background of 18th Century Worcester Porcelain:
Worcester's First Period lasts from 1751 to 1783.
In 1751, Dr John Wall persuaded a group of 13 businessmen to invest in a new factory at Warmstry House, Worcester, England, on the banks of the River Severn.
The early wares were soft-paste porcelain with bodies that contained soaprock, commonly called soapstone in most ceramic circles.
In 1783, Thomas Flight, the concern's former London sales agent, purchased the factory for £3,000.
The Flight family was involved in the management of Worcester Porcelain until 1840.
