About the Item

Lava bed serving plate by Kajsa Melchior. Fictive Erosion collection Dimensions: H: Approx. 4 cm Ø: Approx. 40 cm Materials: Sculpted in sand by pressaure from air and water Developed in acrystal, colored by coal. This piece is also available in a light (beige) version. Size available H: Approx. 2 cm - 4 cm Ø: Approx. 10 cm - 40 cm Larger can be requested. Fictive Erosion consists of collections which all derives from a future scenario where human machines are forbidden due to environmental issues. The collections are speculative results of an ongoing investigation of how to adapt formation processes in nature into design methods. Geology is a great source of inspiration. The sculptures are made from sand that has been exposed to forces such as wind and water, but also from pressure created by the human body. Each sculpture is created in sand and developed with Alabaster. The method makes each shape unique and the sand that leaves the structure on the Alabaster creates its own, stone-like material. Kajsa Melchior is an independent designer and sculptor based in Stockholm. Her work has a design critical approach and investigates in the borderlands between furniture and sculpture, facts and fiction. The work are explorations of how concepts such as developing and erosion can form the basis of spatial and material investigations, and challenges aesthetic standards as they are created through sand, compressed air and bodily imprints. .
