Mario Buatta Cabinet Set Five Imari Pattern Hand Painted Worcester Dishes C-1810
About the Item
Provenance: The Private Collection of Mario Buatta
Mario loved beautiful color combinations on porcelains.
These five "Dejeuney" pattern dishes, hand-painted at Chamberlains Worcester circa 1820, were inspired by 17th-century Imari porcelains from Japan.
They have gorgeous borders painted with a deep royal blue ground and are decorated with amazingly lavish gilding in foliate designs.
The borders feature oval cartouches painted in Kakiemon colors with a pattern of trellised flowers painted in bold red, green, gold, and blue.
The colors and the gilding combine beautifully!
Marks: Four of the five pieces are marked Chamberlains Worcester on the reverse. The dish with the crest has the Chamberlains Worcester pattern number 298 (the Dejeuney pattern number) in purple written on the reverse.
Dimensions: The armorial saucer dish measures 7.75" in diameter x 1.75" deep. The pair of dishes measures 8.5" in diameter. The pair of shell-shaped dishes measure 9.75" x 7.5"
Condition: Very good with very slight rubbing to the gilt (see images) and one dish with light craquelure to the glaze consistent with ageing.
Price for the five Dejeuney pattern dishes: $1,100
Background of Chamberlains Worcester: Chamberlains Worcester was one of the leading porcelain manufacturers of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Clients of the company included Lord Nelson and the Prince Regent, who granted the company his Royal Warrant in 1807.
