Bronze Dish with Bull by Max Le Verrier

About the Item

One of a series of bronze dishes sculpted and cast by Max Le Verrier, this example has an intentional "antiqued" appearance, inspired by ancient Greek coinage. Le Verrier opened his own studio in 1919 and won a medal at the famed 1925 Exposition in Paris that gave "Art Deco" its name. Later, he established a foundry that cast bronze sculptures for Pierre Le Faguays and Marcel Bourain, among others. Although Le Verrier experimented with other alloys, he continued to create pieces in bronze as well.
